Our focus areas at the Center for Hernia Surgery include
- Inguinal hernia
An inguinal hernia is caused by a weak point in the abdominal wall in the groin area. It occurs frequently and affects both men and women. We offer gentle, minimally invasive surgical methods to enable a quick recovery. - Umbilical hernia
In an umbilical hernia, tissue bulges through a weak point in the abdominal wall near the navel. It can be congenital or develop over the course of a lifetime. Our experienced team will advise you individually on the best treatment. - Incisional hernia
Incisional hernias can form after previous operations if the tissue near the scar gives way. Depending on the size and symptoms, we offer various surgical procedures for safe treatment.
Our team
Our team consists of experienced surgeons and nurses who specialize in the surgical treatment of hernias. We work with the latest techniques to offer you the best possible care.
Information for patients
A hernia, also known as a "hernia", occurs when tissue protrudes through a weak point in the abdominal wall. This can lead to pain and swelling and should be treated by a doctor. Frequently affected regions are the groin (inguinal hernia), the navel (umbilical hernia), scarred areas after surgery (incisional hernia) or the diaphragm (diaphragmatic hernia).
Hernia surgery aims to repair the weak point in the abdominal wall or diaphragm and to return the protruding tissue to its original position. Depending on the size and location of the hernia, there are various surgical methods, including open surgery, minimally invasive procedures (keyhole surgery) and, most importantly at our center, robotic surgery (da Vinci surgical robot). In most cases, a plastic mesh is used to reinforce the tissue in order to minimize the risk of a new hernia.
Hernia surgery is a safe and effective procedure that is also performed on an outpatient basis in certain cases.
Your doctor will advise you individually on the best method for your case.
